This is a photo of our 2007 calf crop.  They are between 3 and four months old.  The blue ear tags identify the males or bulls and the yellow ear tags identify the females or heifers.  For those of you not familiar with the terminology, a heifer is a female elk over one year of age who has not had a calf yet.  When they are just born and within the first 24 hours, we go out and check them over, determine the sex and place the ear tags in.  By doing this we are able to identify each calf and who it's mother and father are for the rest of their lives..
